RACE:
An 11th place finish from the Australian Kevin Curtain, the first
Michelin tyre rider to cross the line, was complimented by Cristiano Migliorati's
12th place. The two solid finishes, both within the points, has placed
the BKM Honda Racing Team in fourth place in the Supersport World Championship
with 86 points.
Kevin Curtain who had been dealt a very rough hand this weekend after
losing track time due to some technical problems was pleased with his
result of 11th place. The Australian got a great start, considering his
qualifying position. He stayed with Foret and Kellner and they pulled
away from the following competitors. He maintained a consistent and safe
11th position exchanging places with Foret and Kellner who eventually
finished just ahead of him.
Kevin comments: "I was very optimistic about getting in the top ten
after qualifying in 20th place, so I have to be happy with my result.
I knew I was quite safe where I was and didn't need to look round, it
was Casoli who was the only one who came past and really pulled away.
I was able to stay with the riders in front, catching them on the brakes
but to try any overtaking manoeuvres could have jeopardised getting a
finish, we're riding that hard.
The Italian BKM rider, Cristiano Migliorati, finished behind Kevin in
12th place. Proving again his ability to ride a storming race coming through
from 26th to take the flag in 12th place. He knows he is able to be a
front runner and was held back this weekend by his disappointing qualifying
times.
Cristiano comments: "I am happy but frustrated I know I can ride
a good race. I want to prove my ability and it's simple I need to be faster
in qualifying. It was good to come through the pack but imagine what I
could do with a higher qualifying position. I know in what direction I
need to go and although I don't like Oschersleben (the next circuit) I
know it and I usually go better at circuits I don't like, I am looking
forward to testing and then building on what I have achieved.
Team Manager Michael Bartholemy was the first to congratulate both his
riders on their performances. He knows they are both capable of running
at the front but was satisfied with the result considering the obstacles
they have had to overcome this weekend.
Michael comments: "They both rode well and I am happy with today's
final result, they had an impossible task starting from so low down on
the grid. I must also congratulate the team as a whole all have worked
well to reach this outcome.
The BKM Honda Racing Team will leave the Kent circuit content with the
two finishes and the fourth position they have held onto after a very
trying weekend. The Supersport World Championship race was a great
spectacle before the 122,000 record-breaking crowd at Brands Hatch.
Going right down to the line, it required a photo finish to split the
first two riders, proving again the close competition in this field. During
the month between now and the next round in Germany the BKM Honda Racing
Team will be working hard and testing doing all they can to make a come
back and continue in their hunt for a Championship result.

FREE PRACTICE:
All objectives were achieved during this morning's free practice with
all technical problems resolved. Now the team and riders have a clear
idea of how they can obtain their targets in the final qualifying session
later today.
FINAL QUALIFYING:
BKM Honda's Australian rider Kevin Curtain took 20th place in today's
final qualifying session and was the third qualified rider running
Michelin tyres. He worked hard in the sweltering summer heat at Brands
Hatch to finish within one second of pole position but the depth of field
is of such high calibre that it has placed him on the fifth row.
Kevin comments: "It hasn't been an easy job today, trying to find
100th's to get a good position on the grid. I was pushing hard and the
grip was great, the suspension is good and we believe we've got all the
data to make the right set up for the race and the race is a whole new
ball game. I'm not happy with my grid position but I am happy with my
times and my qualifying lap I did alone without a tow, so I know I will
go faster in the race."
Cristiano Migliorati qualified in 26th position he was very unlucky
when in the crucial final 10 minutes of qualifying a stone damaged his
radiator and he was forced to return to the garage. Although he was
able to return to the circuit his flow had been interrupted and he was,
as Kevin, unable to improve on his time he achieved in free practice.
Cristiano comments: "I am happy with the bike and the tyres but I
was frustrated when my radiator was damaged, I know it was just bad luck
but it came at a time when I needed to be on circuit as the last few minutes
are prior importance. I am looking forward to an incident free race, I
Michael Bartholemy, the BKM Team Manager admits, as expected, that
he is not happy with today's final outcome because he believes in
his riders and their potential to be at the front of the field. He is
also aware that his third place in the championship is now very fragile.
Bartholemy comments: "We must be one of the unluckiest teams here
this weekend, we've been plagued with bad luck since we arrived here at
Brands Hatch. Forced to play catch up is far from ideal we worked so hard
but the irreversible circumstances have inevitably taken their toll on
our final qualifying positions. Both Kevin and Cristiano have proved that
they can lap faster here and we have, in past races, seen them both come
through from less than ideal grid positions. We have confidence in our
Michelin tyres, the WP Suspension technician has been of great support
and despite the many obstacles we have been faced with we will remain
positive for tomorrows race, tomorrow is another day."

PROBLEMS HINDERED PROGRESS IN THE SCORTCHING HEAT OF BRANDS HATCH.
Aiming to recover from a non-points scoring round at Misano the BKM Honda
Racing Team returned to Europe and Brands Hatch to perform before an expected
record breaking crowd.
FREE PRACTICE:
Unable to test at this demanding yet beautiful Kent circuit the team has
tested on home ground to good results. Which is why they were very disappointed
to be faced with some unexpected technical problems during the first free
practice session this morning. This hindered the progress dramatically
of both Cristiano Migliorati and Kevin Curtain with Kevin the most effected
only able to complete 15 laps half the amount of his competitors. Kevin
is however, confident that he can overcome any obstacles to prove again
his ability to learn tracks quickly.
FRIDAY QUALIFYING:
This morning's problems resolved, the team still had a hard task ahead
of them, and with the main objective to make up for lost time the pressure
was on.
Kevin Curtain, fully recovered from his injury sustained at Misano had
hoped to redeem the time he lost this morning and put in a good time in
the fantastic conditions. His progress was again interrupted and he was
forced to use his second bike. Kevin comments: "I need time on the
track and now I'll have to play catch up. Even though I've done hardly
any laps and even some of those were not clear, I got caught in bad traffic
and an oil flag out was out for a majority of them, I am only a second
behind pole time. So I'm looking forward to an incident free session when
I can easily make up for the lost time. The front runners will struggle
to go any faster so I'll be disappointed if I don't get into the top ten."
Cristiano Migliorati is disappointed but was able to find a set up he
was happy with before further progress was halted. He comments: "I
am happy with how the bike feels and I am confident that the team can
overcome these problems to provide me with good machinery for tomorrow.
I enjoy this circuit and I will come back fresh for tomorrows session."
Team Manager Michael Bartholemy could not believe his team's bad luck
as they encountered further technical problems. But could feel content
with the outcome considering the very trying situation he had had to overcome.
He is assured by the confidence his riders have for tomorrows qualifying
session and in his dedicated team of mechanics who will provide the riders
with the machinery necessary to keep BKM at the forefront of this fiercely
competitive class.
